The 6th grade has one less day of school that the rest of the students. On their last day of school, the younger students line the walls and clap out the 6th graders. The parents line the front hall to watch them leave. It's an emotional time. Josh started Kindergarten at this school, so it was his "home" for 7 years. It was hard to see him walk out.
That evening, they held a graduation ceremony at the middle school. They had a whole program including speeches by the teachers, the assistant principal, and even one student from each class. I held it together until the assistant principal read a children's book about kids growing up. 😢
The kids ended it with a 6th grade mic drop they had planned. It was a fitting ending to elementary school.
